CTS Engtec and Ekokem have signed an agreement according to which CTS Engtec acts as the head designer for the undertaking of Ekokem's new power plant no. 2 and G4 turbine.
The South Finland Regional State Administrative Agency granted an environmental permit on 25 November 2010 for the second Ekokem power plant. The approximately 60 € million construction project begins immediately.
The new power plant no. 2 and the G4 turbine will be built in connection with Ekokem's existing facilities in Riihimäki. The fuel capacity of the power plant no. 2 is 36 MW and the power output of the G4 turbine is 9 MW.
The agreement between CTS Engtec and Ekokem covers all the project's layout, process and piping engineering tasks, as well as its electrical and automation engineering. Comprehensive service contract also includes project supervision and project management.
CTS's comprehensive and flexible project management service ensures high quality and cost-effective and on-schedule implementation of the project. Sustainable development factors will be taken into account in the planning from the outset.
Power plant reduces consumption-based greenhouse gas emissions
The new plant will triple Ekokem's electricity generation to 115 GWh and increase district heating production by 25% to approximately 500 GWh. Upon completion of the power plant at the end of 2012, 70 % of district heating for Hyvinkää and 90 % for Riihimäki will be derived from waste-based energy production.
The new power plant will reduce consumption-based greenhouse gas emissions both in Hyvinkää and in Riihimäki. The power plant will be fuelled with non-recyclable manufacturing, construction and municipal waste. One third of the fuel will be made up of municipal waste assorted in the place of origin. The permit conditions for the new power plant are strict, yet they are more or less equivalent to the permit conditions for the power plant no. 1.
In the new power plant, the existing flue gas purification equipment for the hazardous waste incineration line 2 will be used in flue gas cleaning and it will be complemented with wet scrubbing and heat recovery equipment. Odour problems will be avoided by placing critical functions in spaces held under negative pressure.
