Definitive feasibility study of Sokli Mine
CTS Engtec Ltd has carried out a Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) concerning the planned Sokli phosphate mine, in the municipality of Savukoski. The DFS was ordered by the Norwegian-based fertilizer company Yara International ASA. The DFS examines the feasibility of constructing the mine.
According to the contract, CTS Engtec Ltd was responsible for coordinating and authoring the study, for cost estimation and profitability calculations as well as for the project implementation schedule and engineering disciplines of the DFS listed below.
- Civil engineering, incl. roads dams and other infrastructure
- Piping engineering
- Electrical engineering
- Construction engineering, incl. HVAC
- Energy planning
- Water treatment and management
- Report concerning logistics
The contract also includes coordinating the work and overseeing the efforts of Yara´s subcontractors in the process and mining sector.
Before conducting the DFS study, CTS Engtec carried out an analysis that examined the availability of the project’s earlier preliminary studies as well as their level of accuracy.
The Sokli phosphorus deposit is located in the municipality of Savukoski. The deposit is a carbonatite massif approximately 365 million years of age with a surface area of some 20 km2. The mining rights are owned by Yara Finland Oy.
